Did JD make a true open station 4440.I know the 4455 Mexican was and have seen 4430s that were.Suppose to have one bought but a fellow JD enthusiast didn't think there were any.Any input? Thanks

I talked to a guy in Waupan Wi that said he has factory original open station. I saw it on Craig'sList under a different owner. It was pretty as a new penny with duals. I am interested to see more responses to this question. Paul

I had a neighbor growing up that had all open 30 and 40 series tractors. He had two 4630's both with open rops, a 4430 open with no rops and one or two 4440's one had a rops the other did not. I know all of the 30 series tractors were synchros but i don't know what the 40 series has in them.

There where SOME JD 40 series and even 50 series open station tractors made. I know of a JD 4455 2wd 15sp PS that has factory flat top fenders. Local seed corn company ordered it new that way.

Back in the 1990's as a dealer tech...I converted a 4430 open station tractor to a sound-guard body tractor!...Lots of things different....engine fan being just one item...ac brackets..compressor...cab attenuator needed...oil cooler(cooler/condenser)..etc

I think open station wasn't an option on 4440. OS fenders,2 post Roll-gard & operator shield is listed in 40 series parts catalog for 4040 & 4240 but not 4440.

I just hauled one for a buddy last weekend that he plans to re-sell. Has 4 post canopy. Quad range transmission. Was used as a power plant to run waste water pump.

A true open station to me has no ROPS unless it is the two post found on 20 series. The 4455Mexican I had was that way but they were basically left over parts and had many features that were different 3 3/8 axles, syngro only, are just a couple things.I have seen them with 4 post removed but that isn't the same. The two brothers in Michigan that have them had a 4040,4240 and 4440.I already got and sold 4040 and am waiting to get deal finalized on other two.Buyer who wants 4440 doesn't think there were any that's why he wants it and I don't want to misrepresent it.

Larry can we find someone out here that has a sales manual or JD price list from that time period as it would tell if they were available that way

Good response still don't know .Thanks for all the replies. We know for sure there are 4240s and I know of a 4050 but will have to have my guy that is a neighbor to these gentlemen check it out better. It is in a shed and been sitting for a while. It only has 3600 hours so should be nice. There are many questions with out answers which makes it challenging. The Sound guard cabs on 6030s Tim saw at factory and 4320P.S that some claim to have proof of.The Stolper cabs that are on real 1971s are just a few.I will have an answer if my friend looks at it as He knows them pretty well.

Larry I personally KNOW the JD 4455 flat top fender open station was factory ordered by DeKalb seed at their Anamosa plant in 1991. They traded it in 1999 for a JD 7810 with a cab.
I know the current owner and he did put a roll bar on it.

I also know of a JD 4050 flat top fender MFWD 15 sp power shift with a JD 265 loader on it. The fellow uses it everyday loading silage out of bags.

I have seen several JD 4240s with flat top fenders. I have not seen a JD 4440 that way.

That might be around the time where they started mandating all tractors be sold with some sort of roll over protection. Back in 1982 or 83 ? when Dad bought the 750 compact you could deduct the roll guard. Since it was a primary mowing tractor we did not get the roll guard since we have a lot of trees to go around.
