445 hood

Does anyone know if the top section of a 4 star or 5 star hood would fit on a 445? They look alike in photo's but I don't know if the dimensions are the same.

5-star centre sections are longer and if you have a good one, they are hard to find. I have found that 4-star, jet star, and 445 all interchangable.

As Mr. Greenwood replied the 5 star hood is longer. But upon a closer look at them where those get the length is where the cowling around the gauges are at. You can snip the two mounting straps welded on the inside of the cowling and slide it forward to shorten it to the correct length and re weld. The hood width and curvature are the same. How ever you will have to stay with a gas or diesel hood as the LP tractors have a taller cowling on them to clear the lp tank. 335 will not work as those are too narrow.

Mushy, I have found that the 335 hood is identical to the 445/Jet/4star. It is the side panels that vary. I found this when I attempted to install 335 side panes on my Jet Star. The 335 side panels are not quite as deep of a curve inward the front, though they apprear to be identical in the rear. This is to account for the narrower front end and radiator of the 335. Or at least that is my best guess.

I could use a good photo of hood mounting on a 445, if anyone can oblige. I'm pretty sure something is missing. The picture in my parts book isn't clear enough to be of any help. Thanks.

Isn't the 4 star hood latch diffrent from the hood latch on a 445? I would think the 4 star hood latch would be like a Jetstar, with the silver handle on the hood side while the 445 would use a slide lever like the 335 does.

You are correct. They are different. The 335 445 and 5 Stars are the same style. The Jet Star and 4 Stars have the side handle.

Murray. Sold a 5 Star one and cut off to fit 445.

I bought a hood for my 445 which I was told came off a 4-Star. As mentioned, the latch is different. For now I just have a bungee cord on it.

Hi Rich,
I noticed the heavy bracket around the power steering unit on your 445, which I have not seen before.
Is that MM or an aftermarket add-on? What is it for?

At one time the tractor had had a Vaughn loader on it. I got the loader with the tractor, but it was not on it at the time, and I have never put it on.
