4450 injection pump

Neighbor has a 4440 quad with
a 4450 engine. They want to
take it to the local pull.
They turned the fuel screw in
2 turns. One turn at a time
and have not gained any more
smoke. This tractor never
smoked much on the farm even
before turning it up. He would
like it to smoke more. Is
there anything more can do to
the pump to gain more fuel
without going into the pump?
It's only for one pull and
will go back to the farm the
next day.

I'm gunna go out on a limb here. But,he can remove the square cover with 4 screws holding it down. That's the AFC cover. Turn that wheel all the in then back off quarter turn IIRC that'd make er smoke a bit. Smoke doesn't make power tho, a leaking intercooler boot will make any diesel smoke. There's a lot of information on the internet about this.

1/4 turn 40 hp. About an 8th of what you did is sufficient. It can be overdone. The instructor stopped us in class back in the day and made sure we all heard that sentence

Be aware that if the rack travels TOO FAR the plungers will get into the retard start position and power will fall off. The retard start notch cut into the plunger tops is designed to RETARD injection timing sometimes will cut back the fuel delivery too. Bosch pumps consider 21 MM to be full rack travel, but on pumps with retard notch plungers it's best not to go past 17 MM for max fuel delivery.

Apparently the pulls he attends works the smoke
credits into the pull percentage some way! ; > ) One of
the mechanics at a shop I worked at called hot rodders
squirrels. If he heard a car going up the street with
noisy exhaust and the engine revving he would say I
hear a bushy tail!
