450 Struggles Continue

Well, the 450 continues to
experience issues. As you guys
suggested, I took the carb off, and
took it apart. Bought a carb repair
kit and installed that. Made sure
the float was moving freely, it
seemed fine and there was no fuel in
the float. I also disconnected the
air cleaner from the carb and ran
it. It seemed ok for 10 minutes or
so, then it started to act starved
of fuel when I was disking. It died
on me just once, but it kept acting
like it was about to......thanks for
any help, as always

I would have a couple suggestions. One is there something in your gas tank that covers the inlet to the sediment bowl after some use? (I had it happen to me) Second are the vents in the gas cap plugged that after some use causes a vacuum after some use in the tank.

Thanks

the Nebraska test says it needs 4.8+ gallons per hr. to run full throttle . pull the plug on the bottom of the carb and let 5 gallons through into a can and time it . you know what to do if it won't . I have had it happen to me from rust in tank .

As said below check and clean tank and put a filter screen on top of sediment bowl.It sound like something floating around in bottom of fuel tank. You said you put a kit in carb. but did you clean passage ways in carb when you put kit in? I clean passage ways in carb. with the little round files that they use on cutting torch tips.

Have you cleaned the sediment bowl? Have you serviced the air cleaner? How about the fuel inlet fitting screen that is inside the carburetor?

Do you have black smoke when it does that??? Does choking it hurt or help?? If you take the gas cap off when it does that does that help?? When it does that is your spark still a good blue/white and jump a 1/4 inch gap or more??

IIRC, when you posted pics of your 450 it had a new coat of paint. Your gas cap should have one or two vent holes. They very well may have been painted over with the paint job. Check to see if they are plugged and if so correct that. The fuel in the bowl of my 450 was orange until I took the tank off and pressure washed it. Now it is a clearer color like gas should look. Then I installed the little filter that goes on the sediment bowl as pictured above. Good luck.
