4520 john deere tractor

I need help regarding the hydromatic transmission. It will not stay in either low or high gear...mid gear stays in. Checked out linkage, & oil, both seem fine. Would appreciate any suggestions with this problem.

This is the 2000's compact utility tractor and not the early 1970's field tractor?
Oil level and filters dirt or debris jamming linkages .

the year of this tractor is a 2010 - 2013 JD compact tractor, 4520. I have not checked the filters, the transmission has plenty of fluid (which is clean) & has about 500 hrs on it. I removed the linkage shifter & put a center punch into the shifting rod that comes out of the side of the transmission & I am then able to select any gear & it will not pop out. would appreciate any other comments, I am lost on this.
