4520 V8 cummins?

So I was out and about today doing silage appraisals and I ran across a John Deere 4520 that was repowered with a V8 cummins with grapevine growing around it. I talked to the owner and he claimed that the hydraulic pump went out of it and he parked it and it hasn"t run in 2 years. He said he would be willing to part with it but before I chase this any further I wanted to consult the brain trust on here regarding this combination. Any one had any experience with this? Can the rear end handle that kind of power? It seems like a first rate repower job with the frame being cut and strengthened.

there were quite a few of the repowers around here over the years. most were done by Kinze repower. they were a good set up.

What's a fair price for one of these. I can figure out the market on a 4520 but does the repower really add that much value?

I'm not sure which V8 Cummins it has. I worked for Cummins for 15 years as an engineer, the 504 and 555 V-8 engines were the most troublesome. Mostly due to lube system issues. Oil did not return to the pan quick enough (due to internal restrictions in the engine) when operating at high engine speeds. The engine would run out of oil. If you keep the speed below 2600 RPM lube system problems are greatly reduced. These engines have been out of production about 20 years, parts will be expensive and possibly hard to find. If you buy one of these engines keep in mind resale value will be poor.
If it is a V-903 engine it is a different story, it is a much better engine (the military uses them turned up to very high HP outputs). Parts will be expensive for this engine too.

Some people loved 903's in trucks and others hated them. Mechanics hated them. I was not talking about trucks anyway.
903's are still being built after all these years for specific applications so they are not all that bad.
The Coast Guard has a lot of them too.
