4610 shifting

does anyone know anything about the newer fords with the shifting on either side of the steering colum. any good???, what does each shifter do?? any problems with these units?

They work. It's a reasonably good transmission. The biggest problem with them is the shift linkage. I don't care for the way they shift, and I've seen some of the larger models that had problems with the shift column... but otherwise I think it's a decent transmission.
THe short lever is a high/low/reverse shift and the other is a 1-2-3-4.... so you have a total of 8 forward and 4 reverse ratios.
