464 electronic ignition Duraspark II.............

A customer's 464's distributor was worn beyond rebuilding.I was unable to find a replacement so I adapted a Ford V8 ignition system.I cut every other vane of the pickup rotor to make it 4 cylinder worthy.Removed the vacuum advance and modified the advance weight slots to mimic the original dist.I machined an adapter from aluminum and modified the drive to fit,then opened up the plug gap .010" more.The 'ol girl runs like a champ-owner says it's never started so good or had this much power.

Brilliant, I am toying with the same scheme only different for a Wisconsin VF4 odd fire 1/2 speed dist. Use the correct holes in cap and I think it will work. I will need a dist that runs opposite from most.

The Ford V8 distributor runs counterclockwise,I'm pretty sure the VF4 does also.No wonder those old Wisconsins shook so bad-odd fire! Maybe it's a state thing-my Milwaukee super Shaker Harley is also an odd fire.You've got me ponderin'-how would you position the plug wires? #1,blank blank blank,#3[directly across from # 1],#4,blank,#2

Yes the VF4 runs CCW and has 1/2 speed dist. What I think will work is fire 1 skip 1 post fire 3, now we switch banks to to # 4 cyl and have a 270 crankshaft degrees gap so we skip 2 posts. Next we fire cyl. 2 so skip one post. Next we are back to cyl. 1 and skip no posts from 2cyl to #1 cyl.
This engine is in a skid loader and I would like it to work out of the box. I will run engine before I put it back in loader. Just have to find dist. that runs CCW that I can limit the advance and I would like it to be HEI or electronic. Size of dist. body is 1 1/16 which is common in 4 and 6 cyl. but maybe not for 8 cyl engines. Thanks for the reply .

Ya might want to look at a HEI from an early [80"s]rear wheel drive GM car[except chevy cars and chevy engines] w/ a v8..260,305,350.[Buick,olds,etc.]I think most of those turned CCW.HEI is easy to hook up-not sure about mounting space and adaption mods in your case.
