Went and helped a neighbor today pull his 464 out of the weeds. Has not run for 2 years. He said the clutch was stuck when he parked it. Could start it in neutral but would grind if you tried to put it in gear or he could start it in 4th but would
need to shut the tractor off to stop. So this is what we found today. Installed new battery and tractor would not turn over. Starter tried, put tractor in 4-hi and pulled with truck and it just dragged the rear tires. In Neutral it would roll. Motor
Stuck? We were not trying to get it to start just checking to see if motor was free. I would also assume the clutch is still stuck as pulling the tractor in 4-hi with clutch depressed it would still drag the rears. 1 Freeze plug was also popped. Need some advise on where to start if at all.. Tractor is in decent shape but who
knows what else we may find.

Hi, is the engine a D-179 Diesel or gas? If it a gas remove the spark plugs a get for coolant and see if engine will roll with starter. If it is a Diesel it is more complicated to pull the injectors.
Is it over head muffler with rain cap or under slung exhaust?

The stuck clutch could have been freed by removing the inspection plate under the bell housing and loosening the six bolts that hold the pressure plate to the flywheel and tapping the clutch pads loose.

Good gas and under slung exhaust, then remove the plugs and see if the starter can turn the engine now. If engine is still stuck you can fill the cylinders with ATF and let it sit for a week or so and try again. BUT since frost plug was popped out chances are the head or cylinder wall is cracked and let coolant into a cylinder and the piston rings are rusted to the cylinder wall.
