466 baler

I have a 466 JD baler and it gathers hay between the outside right belt and the baler wall and I have to stop evry so often and unclog the hay from the side. What can I do to prevent this from happening?

Have you tried operating baler at lower pto speed? If it's a 540 rpm model try operating a 450-480 pto rpm's

May be over or under feeding that side.
Adjust belt tension , bale shape, sensors
per operators manual.

I agree while driving tractor one can tend to over feed 1 side vs the other BUT may I ask how one adjusts belt tension if one wants the heaviest bales possible for the desired diameter of the bale?

I will try that when I bale again next week and let you know if it worked. Thanks

Adjust hydraulic valve for maximum pressure
to get heaviest bale at all diameters.
Smaller bales hard to always get maximum
weight due to driving shorter driving time.
PTO speeds can influence density in some
crops, some like fast and some slower. My
reply to his problem related to belt
tension as a factor of misadjusted bale
shape sensors.

Have you ever check the belts for length??? They stretch. If the outside belt is stretched than it will not track exactly correct and that will allow hay to get where your talking about. There are two lengths on the baler. Long belts are 530.5 inches and the short ones are 525 inches.

Pull one out and measure it. The correct length is important but second to the belts matching. If they are within 2 inches of the same I will run them. If it is out more than that I resize the belts. I resize them every 2500-3000 bales anyway.

I sure thought when I attended JD sales/customer meetings on hay equipment that JD representatives stated belts on JD rd balers SHRUNK not stretched with use beginning with the models 430/530.

So you never check the length on your baler belts?????? I check mine every 2500-3000 bales. They usually are longer but with in tolerance. Having them all close to the same length is much more important. Usually they will only be 4-5 inches long in 2500-3000 bales. So about every other time I have to resize them.

Also I find it hard to believe anyone would state that a baler belt would get shorter. I have never had a JD service person tell me that. I do not know what the parts "EXPERTS" might have said. Back to belts,they are fabric and rubber being pulled on constantly, they stretch. On balers that are rarely check, as in never. I have easily had to cut several feet off of the belts. The worrisome thing is I find belts that are several feet different in length. Guys damage a belt, just pull it out , cut the damaged spot out and relace it. So that one belt is way short and carried more load. Many times break.

Nope I don't check the length of my belts unless I need to re-lace them BUT I don't bale as many bales per year as you do. I guess oldtimers has set in as I sure thought I was told at JD meetings that their rd baler belts shrunk.

I will bet that if you check the center belts they will be longer than the side belts. I see it get so bad that the customer is making barrel shaped bales.

I've seen barrel shaped bales ejected out of new balers. My baler doesn't make barrel shaped bales. In the morning I'll post some photos of my balers bales when it cools down.
