47 A Starter

I need to replace the starter drive on my early styled A. The started is on my bench and it
looks like the nose unbolts with the 4 long bolts. Will the nose come off without all the
inner works coming out also? And if it all comes out, does it go back in in one piece?
the starter is a top mount.
Thanks.

Is the number on the tag 1108914 and does it mount above the flywheel? If so, there is 5 short bolts\ screws attaching the nose to the frame\case. Attached to the nose is the pedal, pedal spring and the center bushing plate. It could slide off the armature if the shaft is clean enough.

Does your starter look like this one?

I had to replace the bendix on that one after a "mag timing incident" where the original was blown into about eight pieces. The lever needs to be removed, and then the short bolts on the nose.

Thank you for help. I got real close to a successful conclusion, but didnt realize if you pulled the insides
out past the brushes, my work just tripled. Its back together and working great. Thanks again.
