Is there any "slop" allowance for the distributor shaft? (wiggle room) If so how much? I have quite a bit and i have ordered a bushing but, just wanted to know if there was a tolerance.

common sense told me there shouldn't be that is why i ordered the new bushing. this would cause rotor tip not to make proper contact to the Dis. Cap. there was slop with the top out and just the shaft in the base. top is good. this might be the reason why i had so much trouble getting it to even spark. everything else was reading fine. Thanks

robably not. The HV spark jumps the rotor to distributor gap....there is no contact here.
The problem with 'slop' is that for every 0.001 inch 'slop' in the shaft, the cam which opens the point has nearly that same movement, which is adding/subtracting from the 0.015 point gap at random. 0.001 won't kill you, but 0.005 is 1/3 of point gap....not good.
