48 Ford 8N

I haven't used my 8N for probably 8 or so months. But I do have the clutch pedal wedged down with a rock. I hope I don't get any surprise when I do go to use it.

I guess I really should get out there and fire it up one of these days. It's just to hot right now.

Can't start this tractor in gear. It's a safety feature. But on this forum I had multiple people say to put it in 3rd gear and pull it around. I did that and also in 1st, 2nd, & 4th.

so when you were pulling it around were the back wheels turning or sliding on ground?

How would oil cause it to stick? I can see how oil would make it slip but how does it make it stick?

Oil will swell the clutch material.

What causes so many stuck clutches? I have had my 1951 8N for five years, now, and never experienced any type of sticking, even if left sitting for a couple of weeks. Lucky, environmental conditions, what? zuhnc

Many N's are homeless or garageless and have to sleep outdoors. The moisture is rough on a stationary tractor.

Mine has always slept outdoors, sometimes under the trees. (I do have an indoor bedroom for it, but at the moment is filled with lumber for barn and house projects.) The previous owner did no maintenance on it, other than keep a 12V charger on the dead battery so it would start, sometimes. Poorly done 12V conversion, probably by someone prior to him. Never a stuck clutch, and humidity is really high here, most of the time. zuhnc
