48 G pump leaking into rear end?

Low on hydraulic oil and over full on rear end, leaking axels, I assume there is a seal between the pto pump and the rear end that is leaking. How big of a job am I getting in to?

Might not be the pump seal, gasket between the clylinder housing and rock shaft housing. This
gasket will blow out & leak. I would make sure the cylinder mating surfix is perfectly flat
befor installing a new gasket. With weight on rock shaft & hydraulic pump pressure I've seen
mounting stud distortion. Not looking at a book but if the G is like the A'S there is only two
studs that mount the two housings together. While you are there might as well replace every
seal & gasket you see. The rock shaft housing is HEAVY. I work on them as close to the tractor
as I can. Create a platform around the drawbar, pull back & lay it down with the inside up &
keep the cherry picker/hoist connected to it. If the rock shaft leaks down, now is the time to
replace the piston seals too. Remove the power trol box befor you lay it down & pull square
shafts so clyinder & piston come off on the inside as one assemble. Closely look at the mounting
gasket. If it is blow it is easy to see & there is where the issue is.

Besides the cylinder gasket that RLA mentioned there is one other place where hyd oil can leak out
of the hyd oil reservoir and into the rear/trans reservoir. There are two large seals, they look
like large garden hose washers, on the pto shaft where it passes through the front wall of the
rockshaft housing. They get torn and slip out of place.

The pto shaft has to be removed to replace them so you need to remove the rockshaft housing and keep
it hanging in a vertical position. There is snap ring on the front end of the pto shaft that needs
to be removed before you can remove the pto shaft through the pump housing.

Also the closed end of the lift cylinder can break of and all oil will go
into rear end. Heavy job for 3 including the JD mechanic.
