#48 loader on 2240?

Hi, all. I've been scouring for a bit and can't quite find what I'm after. I am looking to pick up a loader for our 2240 and may have found one, but need some info. We have finally found a (relatively) local loader in good shape. This gentleman says he pulled his #48 off of a 1520. Can anyone tell me if the brackets would be the same? The 1520 and 2240 seem to be similarly sized 3 cylinder utility tractors, so a simply bolt up would be ideal.

Thanks!

Mounting brackets for JD 48 FEL for 1520 & 2240 are identical. Does your 2240 have side frames & ported hyd filter cover?? If not you need to install some side frames before installing mounting brackets.

Thank you for the quick reply!

I don't believe it has side frames-assuming those would be plates bolted to the casting?

Tractor is already plumbed with quick connects underneath, we had a 145 on it years ago. I'll see if I can post some pics to help out the discussion.

I'm not positive they weren't part of the loader mount for that one, too. Hard to say, that was a long time ago.

Fantastic, thank you! Lots of Jim's around here...

Looks like the brackets he is including have the adapter plates with them. Consensus is that they should bolt right up to my 2240 without side plates?

Edit: After some more looking, I'm almost certain I'll need to come up with another set of side plates for this.

Another Edit: Perhaps I was wrong. Looking at the IPL for 4 cylinder tractors, it specifically calls out the reinforcing framing, while the 3 cylinder version does not?

We had a #48 loader on a 2020, you will need engine side frames under the loader mounting brackets. The larger 3010-4020 tractors needed doubler plates inside the engine side frames too.

Review of pictures in the 48 Operators manual does show the tractor side frame behind the loader bracket. If the frames were not there some of the mounting bolts, like #7, would not be anchoring the bracket to anything. Also, it appears the side frames space the brackets out past the recess, on the front support, where the side frames end (The side frames end just to the front of the #6 bolts.) the mounting brackets extend passed that point. So, I now think ss55 is correct, you need a set of side frames under the brackets in your picture above. Operator Manual downloads for these loaders are available for free online at https://techpubs.deere.com/

Im inclined to think yall are right. I went and picked up the loader last night, and after looking over the brackets and tractor, I believe the side frames are necessary to reduce stress on the engine casting. Based on a quick web search, its goi g to be much cheaper to just make my own frames with some flat stock.

The 48 will work fine on you 2240. Lots of 1020's had them. I usually sell used side frames for $100 each but not sure if I have any left. Tom

(quoted from post at 18:27:17 12/11/21) That tractor is not heavy enough or designed for a 48 loader id go with a smaller loader

We had a 48 loader on our 2020 for its entire life. I believe it had over 7500 hours on it when we traded it for a 5210. We rarely took the loader off. Other than the occasional broken spindle from too much manure on the bucket, it was a great combination.

Thanks, everyone for the replies. I'm going to pick up some steel to make side frames and get this thing mounted up. Then a couple of new hoses and I should be in business!

Out of curiosity, what's fair market on a decent shape 48 now?
