49 8N - Polorizing Generator

Awhile back, I had my generator re-built locally. I think they put a 12 volt field coil back in it, as the resistance went from about 3 ohms to about 7 ohms. I never felt good about the generator working well, even after much polorizing and such.

Well, yesterday I took the battery out and recharged it. When I put it back, I put it in backwards (things like that happen more often when you hit 70). It is a tight fit, and I didn"t want to swap it out. I remembered that someone said the motor works better with positive ground, so I left it there. I could not get the generator to polorize. So today, I took the belt off and made the generator motor. It polorized and is charging at 5 amps! This tells me that motoring the generator does a much better job than just sparking the thing.

I feel good!

Motoring and polarizing an a-circut genny do the same thing. they connect bat hot to armature, and current flows..
