I have a uncle who has a 49 8n. It was stuck in gear sometime back and he finally got it unstuck. But every sense then it has had a grinding noise in the tranny. Sounded real bad in reverse. Well today when he was using it it made a popping noise and stuck in gear again and it will not even attempt to come out. Does anyone have a clue what might have went wrong? Thanks in advance.

Could be a number of things and the only way to know for sure is to pull the top cover off and have a look see. At some point a tooth on a gear or 2 could have broken or some other part broke or got bent so many thing might be wrong but with out looking your guess is as good as any body else

Mine broke second gear and locked up tight. Everyone told me it was stuck in two gears and i tried to unstuck it but couldn't so i split the tractor. On mine you couldn't see the broken gear till the tractor was split.

heres the other half
