Restoring a 494A planter.
Can anyone tell me about the switch in the back that is on a spring that flips left or right to let down the left side or right side markers.
The small chain that runs to the drawbar that hooks through the center of the pin on this switch... how does this flip the switch being it goes through the center of the pin and is locked in place to the pin on the switch. When you pull on either side of the chain it goes through the switch pin in the center. The will not flip the switch.
thanks,

It's been so long my memory is vague. The bracket which bolts to the tractor drawbar was maybe a foot wide? One spring loaded chain from each side went back through their respective tubes (left and right) in the planter frame. Seems like the little tubes were bent at a right angle to direct the chains so that they pulled left and right on the trip lever?

Tractor with planter hooked facing straight out, straighten out both marker chains and pull tight to bracket bolted to the drawbar. Bolt bracket tight-tight onto drawbar! The chains control that back flipper. Hook each chain into its spring tight. Try out? When you turn left and lower planter down, the right marker should drop. If not, shorten that chain one link at a time until it does drop. Do the same for the right turn. The chain tightness adjustment controls the marker drops.

Thank you. One more question. Concerning the Sheaves the large marker chain runs through. There are 3 of them.
Are they supposed to rotate or are they stationary? They all have a bushing in the center but do not turn freely on mine.

Originality, they should have rotated. Are the bushing bad? Make new bushings? Do not lub, draws dirt. Is the chain good where the sheaves are? Wearing the chain from sliding?
