495 Haybine

Looking at a NH 495 haybine. Couple questions. What is the size and the stroke length of the hydraulic cylinder that lifts the head? Is there any conditioner you can put on the rubber drums to help keep them from drying out.

A standard 3x8" farm cylinder.As far as a "conditioner",never heard of such a thing.Here in our ultra dry desert sowthwest we store em out side..I have an early '90s 499,never been 'conditioned'.Still looks like new.Use it and dont worry.Those rollers will outlast the rest of the machine.

I have a 1495 which is the same machine only self propelled. Check the wobble box for any play or leakage, check the "pan" between the sickle and rollers for rust, and check the reel for straightness and make sure each of the tine bars is tight on the ends. The tine bars take a special bearing and rebuilding then gets pricey....

Not really a conditioner but, I apply a Tire Foam to the rollers and curtains it makes clean up of my 411 easier after I finish the sudan.
