499 haybine

[JD 35 chopper]

We have a 499 NH haybine that stopped cutting. I can turn the shaft coming out of the pump with a wrench so the machine is free. The tractor shaft is turning. Is there an easy way to check the pump and motor?

How are the splines in the pump that mounts on the tractor? They have been known to wear off, 1000 rpm ones do it faster!

Check the female splines in the pump 'gearbox'.They can strip.I stripped one myself this summer.I take it you did check oil level?

I thought about checking the oil after I put it away. I will confirm before tearing into it. Where did you get parts for repair? Cost?

I had an extra pump I had saved when I junked an old Hesston.Lucky me! LOL Most of those swathers use the same pump.NewHolland services parts for the pump.The 'shaft' is about $1300. A complete gearbox is $1800
