4DLT battery

Man those things are heavy. Pulled the one out of the 2000 to clean the battery tray and pert near didn't make it. I have two left in machines and when they go, I'm downsizing to Group 31 or 65. One group 65 at 860 amps should turn over my 3 cylinder Ford diesels. Both of them are easy starters anyway so should be no problem.
2000 3cyl and 550 backhoe with the 201.

No more of those 4DLTs for me either.
They are too expensive, have poor
warrantys and you don't need that much
battery to crank these little 3 cylinder
engines.
I've gone to an automotive type. Even
modified a gas battery tray to fit the
diesel.

Lime other people said, they are kind of nice when you need to crank something over when a car battery cant that fast. Like David G said, it sucks to move in a 6610 or 4500 with with a loader.

Agree! Group 31 won't fit under the hood on anything older than a 30 Series tractor.
Group 65 battery post must be to the inside next to the valve cover or they could short out against the hood.
I prefer the Group 49 batteries like in UD's post, the recessed post makes installing cables a little harder but no chance of shorting out, I turn the post to the inside on those as well.
Last 3 4DLT's I purchased lasted less than 2 years and they now only have 1 year warranty, Group 49 is automotive battery with 5 year warranty, I get mine from NAPA.
Each time a 4DLT goes bad I get a longer ground cable and swap in a Group 49 900 CCA battery.

Guess I'm in the minority here... have
had pretty good luck with 4DLT's,
typically about 5 years, but have gotten
up to 13 years out of them.

Thanks everyone. All good information.
The 4DLT in my 2000 is 7 years old so it has served me well. It is getting alittle weak. They are old technology so an upgrade will be welcome.
I would almost rather have two 6 volts in series than buy another one of these heavy bastages.
