4wd busted - 1500d

I have my 1500d. I was moving a lot of rock with my little tractor...probably being a little too hard on it in 4wd. basically, when its in 4wd, it sounds like the gears are "slipping"

If I'm in 2wd, no problems, no grinding sounds. If I jack the front end up and spin the front wheels, they sounds tight...doesn't sounds like anything rattling around.

If I put it in 4wd, it actually will give power to the front wheels, but if I put ANY amount of pressure or torque while in 4wd, it makes an awful, grinding, or gears "slipping" noise....

My best guess and hopefully this is a better problem to have is that it's the drive shave thats slipping or lost its teeth...

Does anyone have any experience on if the driveshaft is the weak link and where I would start to figure out where the problem is?

You will probably have to do a little investigating to narrow it down but frequently the problem is the little balls #11 below

Those balls (6 on each end of the shaft) are what act sort of like your U-joint. They allow for a little mis-alignment in the shaft. They are supposed to be greased but are hard to get to so they dry out &amp; wear down. Once they wear down they start to slip under a load and cause a grinding noise. Of course... it could also be a bad gear somewhere in the front end and driving it could make the repair a lot more expensive very fast.

How do we grease them, Aaron?
