5' or 6' cuuter?

I have a 38hp Massey, and have the opportunity to get a Bush Hog Rhino BH6. I have been currently been running a 5' cutter and need to know if the BH6 is too much for my 38hp. Any words of advice? Thanks!

What are you mowing? Heavy type crop possible, Light type crop probable. Now question is is it too heavy for tractor to lift or keep front end down? 6' will probably weigh 1 & 1/2 times what the 5' weighs.

Mostly food plots and roads, light brush, nothing super heavy!

From what I have found is the BH6 is about 80 lbs heavier than a BH5, and the BH6 is calling for a min PTO hp of 25.

I would say based on my friends 135 diesel, the tractor should handle a med duty 6 ft.
Cutter.

Be sure the cutter has a good stump jumper and the bearings are good, no noise in the
gearbox, check oil level in gear box. Pto shaft in good repair.

Some folks destroy and old cutter, then trade it off.

I've spent many hours on a 42HP diesel Massey 245 with a 6 foot Bush Hog brand bush hog. Yes, it's heavy but not terrible. In real heavy grass or brush it will give the 245 all it wants but it keeps on chomping. Keep your PTO rpms at 540 and gear down in heavier stuff and you will be fine. Make a hard turn while raising the hog up on a hill and you will experience excitement really quick. Slow and steady gets the job done.

All depends on what you're cutting and how fast you want to cut it.Neighbor had a
6ft cutter behind an 8N Ford course he had to run 1st gear and could only cut about 1/2 the width of the cutter.

The rule of thumb is 5HP per foot of cutter width but the weight of the cutter is important from the tractor handling standpoint. Too heavy and the front wheels will come of the ground when you lift it. My TO-30 (27 pto hp) will handle a 6 ft cutter in heavy grass.

If you have enough tractor for it, you will get far better results with a 6 footer. Less overlap and running over previously run down tractor tracks. By the way, there will be a direction of travel that will produce better results.Foget if it is clockwise or counterclockwise. Has been a while since I have used my hog! I have run a 5 footer successfully with a 20HP class tractor. My 60HP just plays with it.

I still occasionally use a 6' Bush Hog on my Late Styled JD "B"..that would be probably under 27 HP..

Pasture clipping usually in 4th gear, 10 ft tall heavy population saplings maybe 1st gear..!!

You should get along fine..

Best direction for my Bush Hog is running the Left rear on the already cut grass/weeds, to pick up what is tramped down by the Rt wheel on the pass before..
