ya i know about turning, my fields arer set up in a way as to turn at ends without any problem. how hard is is it to find wide axle/

How hard is it to find your check book, not any harder to find a wide, advertise and it will pop up Late model #50, square axle $12-1450.00? Early round tube $950.00 ta $11-1200.00 there a bouts. Depends on how nice a unit you are looking for.The question you have posted , no doubt will get you results, for units avail.

53 Diesel...not sure where you're located, but I have a nice JD round tube wfe for sale. I live near Minneapolis. Asking $950 for it. Thanks!

I recommend putting a wide front on your 50. Sure like mine(square wide front). They say they do not turn as sharp, but I have never noticed that as a problem.

BlKsmok, If you lived closer I would get your round wide front for my 60.

My uncle used to rake hay all the time with narrow fronts ? Wonder how he did it ? Did the old rakes have offsetting hitches ?
Very very few wide front ends around here in Ohio on the old tractors. Lots of hay was made around here though.

I see statements like this on these forums
frequently but it is simply not true. Basic
engineering principles prove that the wide front
(yes, even with an oscillating axle) is more stable
than a narrow front end.

There was a fellow on here a while back that worked at a IH dealership years ago. He told about a safety meeting they had and they ran (on film) a M Farmall with a wide and one with a narrow front on an increasing slope. Both went over at the same spot. I didn't see it so I can only go by what he said. In my opinion, once the back tire comes off the ground and starts up, the front axle is not going to stop it. At least on the two cylinders. I don't know on the newer tractors.
