5000 Ford fuel tank

Fuel tank has some small holes rusted in bottom. The tank neck measures 2 1/8 inches tall. Hard to tell what model
the tractor is it does have the sims pump. Not sure which tank to order. A man that restores cars and builds rat rods
said he could probably weld the tank if not to bad. Has anyone used pour in tank liner material. I am a little
hesitate using it because it might not adhere good and plug up the fuel system.

Thanks for everyone help over the years Happy New Years

Yt sells them https://www.yesterdaystractors.com/Ford-5000_Fuel-Tank_D5NN9002AE.html I wouldn't weld it, if it has several pin holes, it will continue to give you headaches.

I looked at the one on this site and it said not for simm pump. Does that make any difference.

thanks

I also had pin hole leaks in my 4000 tank. Used the fuel tank sealer and its been 2 years with no problems. FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS

It is not hard to solder a tank.
Once you get the hang of it soldering is pretty simple and rather satisfying to do.
And it's inexpensive and far more permanent than any other kind of repair.
I'll bet you could find some videos on youtube about it.

Looking at the parts drawings, the only difference I see between the tank for a Simms pump and a tank for a CAV pump is which direction the nipple on the filler neck for the return line points. On the tank for the Simms pump it points to the right side of the tractor and on the one for the CAV pump it points toward the front of the tractor. The final few inches of return line are a piece of rubber hose with clamps in both cases so you should be able to make either one work.

Glad you looked that up Sean, I will add that I just replaced that rubber line on MIL's 5600, it has CAV pump with the line at the neck pointed to the right.
I think the difference may be in the fuel sending unit, some models used screws to mount the sending unit, others used a lock ring, replacing the sending unit will fix that issue.
All of the tanks use the same mounts and have the fuel shutoff valve in the same location.

For s&g's I looked up the tank for a 5600 with CAV pump and 7600 with SIMMS pump both use the same tank as 5000 with CAV

Lock ring or screw style sender is build date dependent IIRC. I am all but certain you won?t find a screw mount fuel sender that works with a gauge that
requires a voltage stabilizer.

Myself, I'd remove the tank, clean it out really well, bring it down to bare metal on the bottom side, and then smear a layer of JB Weld on the bottom surface like I was putting frosting on a cake (just not as thick).

Looks like some miss information and not sure why it says not for SIMMS pump.
Tank D8NN9002HA is used on both the 5000 with CAV pump and 7000 with SIMMS pump, this tank uses the lock ring.
This tank was also used on the 5600, 6600 with CAV pumps and 7600 with SIMMS pump.
According to my search all 3 tanks listed on this site are interchangeable.
My info shows Ford stopped using the voltage stabilizer in 79, but that could be bad info also.

No, that?s about right. The X600 series was split between having a voltage stabilizer and not. Makes proofmeter replacement something to be done with
close attention to the unit code.
