5000 pto stuck on

I have a 65 ford 5000 the pto is stuck on. I opened the inspection plate on the side of the rearend. The spool was stuck in on the control valve so i got it unstuck and put it back together. When I started the tractor the pto turned slow for a few seconds then up to speed fast. With the control linkage on or off the pto is stuck on any help would be great

You sure the pto brake isn't bad and the pto might not just be spinning without power?

IE.. have you tried it under load?

Does it drive a load? If not, then you likely have a worn brake. If it does, then you likely have some warped clutch plates.

I wedged a 2 x 4 against it and it stopped spinning easy so I guess I'll check the brake. Is it repaceable? Thanks

time to get a repair manual thouhg.. before you go poking around in there.
