5020 rockshaft

I have a 5020 of the later serial numbers..I am trying to pull a ripper with the load control engaged. The load control works like it should, except..sometimes on a hard pull it will start to lift the ripper and then continue until it is fully raised. I replaced the lift cylinder O-ring but have not opened the control valve. ( I was hoping to make it to winter). I am assuming a weak spring or seal in the control valve but I thought I would throw it out to the experts here to see if there was a known problem with these I could look at first...

Isn't depth control what you would want to use ?

Does your ripper have set gauge wheels?? The rockershaft selector lever is set on what; L--LD or-D??? If gauge wheels,set selector lever set on D.. If set on LD, in hard soil, three point should pull up a little bit to keep up tractor RPMs up.. Not clear up out of the ground.. There is an adjustment for the rockershaft selector lever in the service manual..

no gauge wheels...running in L load control but when it responds to lift the implement when the pulling gets hard, sometimes it works right, sometimes it just keeps lifting...

My suggestion is to follow the several steps discussed in 5020 tech manual concerning adjusting L/D mechanism.
