Will a d239 fit in a 504 ?

I'm going to doubt it though not very well versed on the 504. I've only seen 1 and that was at highway speed going by.

If you are asking about a D239 from a British 74/84/85/95 series Utility tractor, no.

D239 from a 544 should work You'll no doubt have to figure some things out, but if you get the engine complete from the 544 with the bell housing adapter plate, it should bolt up.

The utility 544 is like a 504. The 544 Farmall is like a 656.

No, the 544 Utility is a full frame tractor. Actually quite similar to the Farmall in construction.

The 504 Utility has no frame rails and uses a Super C style front bolster for steering.
