504 Sleeve Oring damage

First pic left to right is #1+2 sleeve, second pic is 3+4 and third is 5+6. #1 was leaking and a couple others are not far behind. Have no idea what is going on in #3, as the oring area is black and none of the other sleeves show that condition. #5+6 both the bottom orings have swollen like they were installed with a petroleum base lube. Nothing consistent here, kind of odd. The 1570 does have a coolant filter and less that 3000 hrs on overhaul. The cooling system is very clean and the block looks great. The entire tractor is sharp and the owner is good on routine service. This crap should not happen, but does. Last pic our dog likes being close to the wood stove. I think she was sleeping while standing, lol, Rod.

I have seen that happen before also, with no concrete evidence as to why. I always use Mazola canola oil to install sleeve O-rings, but am wondering what others use instead. However, I have never seen a dog sleeping standing up!!

I think I have the same problem in my W14. I drained about 1 pt of antifreeze out of the oil yesterday after sitting since Dec 15. It has less than 1000 hours on it since out of frame major overhaul. Block + heads were surfaced, and counter bores cut. I used the lube from JD that is made for the sleeve O-rings. Suppose there are a bunch of bad O-rings out there? I sure wish I could pull the oil pan to find a drip. It is easier to do 5 tractors than that thing!

Rod, maybe that is a petroleum based problem. Those sleeves look pretty rusty for having a water filter on the tractor. I would fill the tractor with pre mixed diesel quality coolant & push the owner to do the same.

Darrel, do you recall if those new sleeves were the three oring type? I have seen much more oring failures since they went away from the old black neoprene orings. Personally I seen no advantage in these colored silicone base ones. Rod.

We had our 2590 wash down a cylinder from bio diesel plugging injectors and messing up injection pump to the point it was drinking 6 quarts a day but we had to use her and it just had to happen right in the middle of spring. So anyway we purchased a hycapacity overhaul kit and installed it in frame. Two years later and with maybe 300 hours on the tractor we went to change the oil before spring tillage and found antifreeze in pan and filters. Traced it back to bad orings and bought new gaskets and outings and reinstalled everything. About a month later the final drives went out so we have had some bad luck but she"s a great tractor.
