504 vs 606 engine swap??

The tin will not fit , you aren't explaining why you are destroying 2 tractors to make one ? The 606 should do more than the 504 and they are both same vintage.

How bad is the diesel in the 504? It's basically a 4 cylinder version of the D282. We had a 3514 backhoe for a long time, my dad wore the engine out twice, dug a lot of holes and moved a lot of dirt, even wore out it still started and ran good.

I'm unsure on the bellhousings matching up. You'll have to measure or if they are as bad as you say they are pull them apart and see if they match up and go from there. The 606 engine should have a piece of plate as an adapter. The 504 should be cast as part of the block.

504 row crop or utility? Either way you are going from a 4-cylinder to a 6-cylinder so all the sheet metal will be too short. If 504 is a utility there will be no side rails but if it's a row crop the side rails would be too short as well.

That's why I said use the 606 front end.

If I'm not mistaken both the 606 and 504 use rear ends based off of the 460 design. The bell housing bolt pattern should be the same. Internals won't be exactly the same but that shouldn't matter if all you want is a running driving tractor.

What's wrong with the D188 engine in the 504? I might be interested in some parts from it if it isn't too bad...

For length just measure them, I think the 6 will fit with the stock hood. The 504 has a huge fan blade spacer that you could eliminate.
