5040 Loader inoperative

I had used the loader (Allied 394) once before to move a little gravel-very little. I was working on other parts of the 5040 tractor and needed to fill a small mud puddle. The loader worked OK but very slow. Sometime later, I thought I had all repairs under control. I decided to move about two yards of dirt to shore up an irrigation ditch. Tractor worked fine but with each scoop of dirt the loader slowed down and got so slow I shut down the tractor and rechecked the fluid level and checked for leaks- all OK.
The loader is powered by the engine driven pump and not the aux location above the PTO shaft. The tractor's two-way remote cylinder powers the loader. Does anybody think I may have a pump problem or hopefully some simple thing I overlooked?

Does the 3pt work when the loader won't? They'd both be using the same pump. Does it work now that the oil has cooled? The pump went bad on my Fiat built once. I was moving round bales with the 3pt and after 20-30 bales, it gave out and wouldn't lift at all.

We had part of this discussion a while back about the interaction of the 3-point and the auxiliary remotes. You can have either one but not both at the same time. I found that the 3 point lever was frozen in place, how its frozen, I'm not sure but the selection lever does operate and when 3 point is selected you do lose the remote. One problem at a time (there are many) so since the loader is useful and needed before water runs return this Spring, I decided to concentrate on the remote operation. That's when I discovered that after a few buckets loads of dirt the thing slowed down and eventually stopped. The problem acted like it was low on fluid and rechecking the fluid was OK. No leaks or obvious problems were apparent, so after letting it rest for a few hours, I cranked it up and picked up a small load of gravel. The loader worked but very slowly, and after the 1/2 bucket of gravel the loader died again. I'm going over the manuals and schematics and reluctantly coming to the conclusion that the pump is the culprit. I just hoped someone might remember some quirk of this particular tractor to save a rebuild - do you suppose the 3 point/ remote selector might be leaking which brings me back to the frozen 3-point lever. I can't see any obvious reason why won't it move?
