5088 transmission problems

(quoted from post at 09:57:19 04/12/16) My uncles 5088 won't shift in to the even gears. Any suggestions

under the floor there are 2 solenoids, one for the even and one for the odd gears. switch the wires and see what happens. if the evens work and the odds don't there is your problem. if not then contact mike at triple r tractors. he knows these tractors.

Aw, that's good news; bad news is that these things are a bear to diagnose. :>(

Absolute first thing is to make sure the hydraulic system is working okay, but here are some fast checks you can make:

There is a micro switch mounted low on the shift lever. Take a flashlight and see if the switch appears to be opening and closing as you move the lever.

Inside the center console, is the fuse box; there are two fuses that run the sentry. Make sure they both have power. Check the power feed at the left battery; the ground circuit at the right battery.

The sentry is mounted on the left wall of the center console. Swap those two relays and see if the problem follows (bad relay).

If still no go at this point, check the hydraulic pressure in behind the left headlight. You need to see a good 250-300 lbs.

If this is good, pull the floorboard. You'll see two electrical pressure sensors and there will be a 1/4" pipe plug beside each; hook up a gauge (two gauges would be better). The oil pressure should flop between the two when you move the shift lever left or right. You could also swap the sensors to see if the problem follows.

The solenoids are mounted on the left side of the tractor. Check the wiring and plugs at each.

Nine times out of ten, you'll find a bad electrical connection up there at the sentry or it's wiring.

Hollar back and we'll continue on. :>)

No power going to micro switch. Put a jumper on, got power coming out of micro switch both sides when I switch from odd to even. Still didn't work. Not getting power to the pressure sensors. Thinking something wrong up in the brain, wiring or something in that area. I also switched the relays before that and pressure sensors too with no response. Not looking good.
