'51 Case DC generator/starter color

While cleaning up the starter and generator on our DC I was wondering what is the right color to paint them? I have seen them in both black and flambeau red and I don't know which way is right? It seems like the generator was originally flambeau but I don't know what color they left the factory in. This is our first Case and we just want to get it right. Thanks for any info. The Iowa State University Antique Tractor Club is restoring it and it will be for sale in a few months.

Same as the post below about colors on the SC. Don't think there is a right or wrong. Ops manual for a 51 DC shows black starter and Flambeau generator. Later manual for live power DC shows the same except some pics show both flambeau. I paint mine black on starter and gen. as I like the contrast.

Ok thanks for the input, I should have looked at the other posts before I posted but I never thought about it.

These are pics of my 1953 SC with foot clutch, eagle hitch, and live PTO. The starter is black with no sign of flambeau paint on it. The generator has traces of flambeau on the back side, and behind the pulley. As others have said, there seams to be no pattern to how they were shipped from the plant. I will be painting both the starter and gen black on mine when I redo the paint.

Not sure about the 51 s, but Dad bought a new DC4 in 1950. The starter and gen. were a low gloss black.
Uncle bought a new DC3 in 1950 . It had the same colors that dads was. clint
