'51 Trailer Queen

Just discovered that my wife posted pics of my restored 8N the "Tractor Talk" forum by
mistake.

If you have a minute, I hope you can visit that forum under the topic '51 Trailer Queen,
posted 2/15/18.

I appreciate the years of help and all the knowledge from the great folks in this
group during the restoration.

Thanks!

Very nice. I like the lights the way you have them mounted on the fenders. Is the electrical system still 6 volt? Could be a problem if you were to run for hours at night. We sometimes worked until 10 and 11 pm and was ok with 2 headlights and one work light.

System is back to 6volt I haven?t installed the wiring yet. This unit will be started one time and will run only long enough to get the oil pressure up and valves set and will not start or be driven for the rest of my life. She will be wrenched in and out of an I closed trailer. And be used at fundraisers for my mosonic lodge. This restoration is and has been a labor of love.

Great little town. I am 69 self employed and still do a lot of work in New Braunfels. Your right it?s less conjested but getting worse every year as the two towns become closer..

Nicely restored 8N.

Sure it's a 51?

Cannot tell definitively from the photos but I think it's a 52. Upper rear lift arms are definitely 52.

Your 8N is a Sweet Heart you did a great job on it. Bet you don't want to get it dirty do ya? Nice Job!

Dean the p.o. must have had problems at some point because one arm is deferent from the other. But because the hydraulics were working I chose not to change them out at this time. I will change them at a later date. The serial # puts it as a late 51 8n. And I have no reason to think it is not the original motor. All that said you have a good eye. Thanks for looking so close. There are a couple of other things that are not correct that I will be changing in time. The oil bowl on the breather is rounded and I think the wheels were oridgeanaly silver.

"will not start or be driven for the rest of my life."

Nice job on the tractor!

I don't understand this statement though.
An engine, any engine, that isn't started and ran will be ruined.
Why go through the labor of love that it is, to let it be ruined?
I know, it's none of my business. I'm just trying to understand.

Royse. I am sure I will start it off and on during its life but not very
much I didn?t go to all this work to see oil leaks or rusty manafolds
and mufflers and that is what will happen should I start running and
driving it. Some think I?m stupid for doing what I?m doing all I can say
is each his on but I didn?t invest 6 years and tons of money to watch it
slowly deteriorate. But I understand what your saying. I want let
anything happen to it.

Well to each his own, but I agree with Royse. I would put that little baby on a trailer and hit every little south Texas town county fair and parade this spring and fall and show off your good work. On the other hand if you get more enjoyment out of having it looking like it just came out of the factory, that works too. Congratulations.

I do not think you are stupid and it is your tractor.
Do with it as you wish! :)

I have one tractor I refurbished and rarely start or run.
Every time I try to start it I have to fix it.
Kind of like a danged ole snowmobile around here!

The manifold on it has rusted just from condensation.
Mine rarely gets warm enough to dry out that moisture.

Same goes for my oil on that tractor. Full of condensation.
I just change it before I start it. Cold here in Michigan.

Let us know when/where you are taking it to the shows.
If its anywhere near me I'd certainly come to visit.

I would love to come north before I cash in And meet you and a few
others on the forum.I have done more reading than posting but enjoy
yours and Tim and Gary?s cold pics. I probably won?t ever make it but
keep posting I?m still learning even at age 69. Take care my friend.

Wow! That is pampered. I thought that I was pampering my '51 8N that I have been driving for 65 years. It occasionally pulls a hayride, occasionally goes to a tractor show, occasionally goes to a local parade and occasionally just comes out of the barn for a ride around the yard.

Someone, somewhere, sometime is really going to appreciate you saving that nice tractor for them.

Very nice work, but to me it seems wasted effort if not shown to it's potential.

(quoted from post at 19:22:38 02/17/18) Scott. How would you define its potential

I am probably not the one to ask, as I have the 1951 8N that I bought in 1964 for $375.00 and have used hard since then and I still haven't worn it out. I just think it would be a shame for you not to use it and enjoy that.

However if you keep it in a trailer it will stay very nice.

Here's mine that was last painted and got new tires in 1977. I figure it will still be going well after I'm gone.

Great looking tractor you also have a nice one that will keep working
for years to come. I wish I had my first few car and trucks I had. You
might say hind site is 20 20. I now have a chance to save a little
piece of history for my grandkids and who knows maybe there?s. I
can never get out what I have put into this tractor. But think what it
could possibly be worth in another 50 or more years. I am going to be
fixing up a tractor to use around the house with live hydraulics and
more power. But this one will be extremely pampered And passed
down thru family. I just hope they hang onto it.
