OK- i have a ford 515 ind. tractor i use on my farm- today the shifter was fine and then when i put it in third the shifter just spun and would not go in. Does anyone know what causes this and what is the likely part that is worn? i use this for my small farm and really can't afford to have it repaired by a mechanic so if you could give some information on this i would sure apprciate it!! thanks

Unplug the wires going to the top cover where the shifters are..Unbolt the cover and pick it straight up..Is the end of the shifter broken/worn off ?? or the pivot pin in the cover worn out or broken off ?? Maybe a problem with the shifter fork inside the transmission.. When you set the cover back on , line up the pin sticking down with the neutral start pocket and the shifters with their respective engagement places...

THANK YOU for responding, i was wrong on it not going into third -it does go in, but it spins the shifter- does that change what it might be?
and would you think its ok to use it as long as i dont try to put it into third? i guess that would depend on whats causing the problem right?

thanks again for responding!

Nah...Probably the locater pin that goes in the groove in the shifter pivot ball inside the shifter cover..Same procedure..
