515 sickle bar mower

does anyone know how to time ,this particular mower ,it doesnt seem to cut as good as it should ,and i think the sickle is a little out of time ,it doesnt seem to have a long enough stroke to cut hay well ,thanks danny

Do you have the owners manual for the mower ? I just checked my manual & the only thing I can see that may cause your timing problem as you called it, is the belt tension (page 10), or excessive drag on the cutter bar maybe . Actually the manual doesn't even mention the word timing but elaborates on the belt adjustment . If you don't have the manual , send me your email address & I'll try helping you somehow . Sorry I can't be exact on the help . God bless, Ken

Check the register of the sickle. The point of each section should be centered in the rock guards at each end of the stroke. Hope this helps,
Paul

Did you break the pitman and make a homemade one? Sounds like it is the wrong length and it is not centering the sections to the guards as it should.
