52 8n hyd pump noise

The pump on my 8n is making noise... will sometimes lift strong with no noise, then at times makes a noise like a freight train wheel with a flat spot on it.... sometimes, with a load in lift box, I have to coax it to lift... Just using to haul wood around the next few weeks before it goes in garage for a full service... sound like a possible pump rebuild?
 
Sounds like a sticky valve in the pump. Could be as simple as an oil change however.

What oil are you running and when was the last change?

Noise is usually a symptom of worn cam blocks. Start by inspecting for leaks. Remove the side inspection covers and raise a load - fluid dripping from above indicates leaking cylinder or cover gasket.

... Inspection plate was removed.... no leaking... put a load of rocks on back.... sometimes noise, sometimes not.... She is due for a full service... I have only had the 8N a few months... 9N also due for service... was going to change both machines hyro fluid before winter...
 
.... one thing to note... the fluid is prolly old... also, used it for a few months hogging 125 acres.... not issues... issues started about 1 wk after I let neighbor use it... he got it stuck.... mower drifted down... he tried to lift mower again but it had settled in the mud... I think a load of force was put on PTO with blades stuck.... when I got home, I had to take truck over, remove mower, drag mower out, then pull out tractor.... He didn't think to remove PTO shaft to raise mower... just waited until I got home.. lol by the time I got home, mower was sunk in mud so I couldn't get shaft off unless I removed mower... lol
