52' 8N not starting

Hey its been awhile since I have posted but the ol 52' 8N 12V decided not to start on me after sitting for about a month now. I checked for spark right away and had great spark at the plugs, then checked for fuel and had great running fuel. I pulled out the main jet and it had what looked like rust build up on the neddle and I wiped it off but still nothing. It started to rain here so I didnt get to look any more into it untill it quits any one got any ideas? Thanks

sounds like you narrowed it to fuel.. double check with a shot of start fluid.. if she pops on that.. then she ain't getting fuel thru the rust clogged jets and ports in the carb.. even though she may be getting fuel thru the flaot valve into the bowl.

good job on getting it narrowed down.. make sit easier to troubleshoot this way.

post back.

I may be going out on a limb, but chances are that you didn't do what you think you did and reported here, " I pulled out the main jet and it had what looked like rust build up on the neddle and I wiped it off but still nothing.".
My dollar sez that 90% of owners who open up these carbs never see the main jet...........could be wrong, but doubt it.

The red path in attachment is the fuel path for all except idle and idle path is part of that, except it tees off to "B" via vertical path marked 'fuel' & arrow. Be sure that full path is clear.

check the float needle valve, could be stuck.
if you got fuel puoring out the bowl of the carb but it wont start then try starting fluid.
if it starts on starting fluid then it probably is the needle valve. my 52 8n 12 v did exact same thing on saturday and after 2 cleanings I noticed it was stuck, i pulled it out and lubed with some oil and she works perfect. It happened to me last year too and only after 3 hours of playing around i remmembered to check and sure enough thats what it was.
good luck!

Well I sprayed it all out and it fired right up so just a dirty carb from sitting and getting stormed on and not worked. Thanks guys
