A fellow that I know called about an hour ago,That has a Pristine 52 8N,he bought it new,in fact its almost as good as new.He keeps it waxed and in the garage. He uses it to mow his 1/2 acre yard is all it has done the past 30 or so years since he sold his small farm. I have worked on and kept it tuned up plugs,points,condenser,oil-filter change at least once a year for him if it needed it or not. Also he had 4 new tires put on it last spring.Anyway his health is getting bad he said when he called and ask me if I would be interested in it and the finish mower and 2 bottom plow.Well I said I don't know,my wife would clean my PLOW if I brought another ford tractor home.I asked how much,he said since you always liked it when you worked on it for me,he said you can just come and get it and the implements and its yours.Well my mouth dropped to the floor and finally was able to tell him thank you so much, and will come and get it tomorrow. He said ok I'll see you tomorrow then.,,So now the dilemma should I keep it? What will my wife say? Or I guess I could just give it away, just like he gave it to me.Anyone want it?Just let me know on here. You will have to get it tomorrow!

Better go get it quick! Tomorrow won't be April Fools day!
I think he'd be pretty disappointed if you didn't keep it.
Sell one that doesn't have sentimental value if you must.

I am new to the board so let me know if I am overstepping my bounds but it sounds like a heck of an honor for him to offer you the tractor. I'm betting him giving it to you after the hand you had in maintaining it meant more than any money he could have received for it. Not sure about your better half but mine would be more likely to "let me" keep another toy... I mean antique work horse if she knew the importance and meaning behind it. After all you hand't been out hunting for another tractor a friend felt you would be the best person to care for it.

It'd be real nice if you bring it over and mow his lawn with it, or else let him mow with it as long as he is able.

I would consider it a great honor, one that he no doubt felt you should be the new owner. To carry on with his bride and joy if you will. If i ever faced such i think i might be somewhat let down if the person didn't take it.

01BIRDDOG,Man there aint no way I would carry on with his bride!Besides my wife would divorce me then kill me.lol

Thanks for posting this Den.
By all means take it and as said below keep his place mowed and let him drive it as long as he is able.
What is the status of your other tractor?
If it's another run of the mill N I would sell the one you have now and keep his if the Mrs will only let you have one.
Whatever you do please don't restore this tractor.
That would be a real shame if it is as nice as you suggest it is.
Remember, they are only original Once.
Give us an update too. This is a nice story.

If I was that old fella, I would be terribly offended if you didn't take it. Even more so if you took it and sold it. I'm sure your wife will be very understanding once you explain it to her. If I was you, I would be extremely honored by the offer and accept it! If you are still going to mow his lawn, I would just leave the tractor there until he is done with his property and then bring it home. Unless there would be issues with family over the will, rights etc. Just my 2 cents.

I'd keep the tractor , maybe get rid of the wife!!, just kidding of course

Take it and get rid of something else. Then post pics here so we can all see it. Your wife will understand if you tell her the story.

Agree. But keep it until the old fellow passes on then sell it then if you must. Your wife might roll her eyes but will understand the sentiment behind you taking it for him. Women don't understand the machine but know the emotion.

If you are not going to keep the tractor, tell the man you will sell it for him. If I gave it to you and then you sold it, I would be at least very disappointed and maybe angry. The tractor is a very important part of the man's recent life and he wants to give it to someone who will appreciate and care for it.
