52 Ferguson/Generator Question

We have a 52 Ferguson, and I wanted to know everything I could learn about generators, because I know nothing about them. I know alternators in and out, and how they work.

I went to test the generator because it's not charging the battery anymore, and my multimeter went nuts. I didn't even touch the contacts. Can you test them? Or do I need an analog tester? because the digital one won't work.

You have it figured out. Use an analog meter. The "noisy" ignition and charging systems on these old machines "freak out" many digital meters.

A reasonably-priced analog meter is plenty accurate for what you are working with.

Ditto what Bob said.

I much prefer my antique Simpson 260 (Analog and Needle of course) VOM. A digital would just flash n change numbers constantly n not tell me nuttin.
