520 Steering Gear Disassembly

I don't remember how to separate these pieces. I know it has something to do with the dowels but I don't remember how to get it apart. My manuals are at a friends house who is out of state for a few days. Anyone here know?

Measure the amount the end nut sticks out and then remove the set screw and then the nut. It should then slide apart. You may have to turn it some too so those pins align up with a slot ?

Drive out those pins after you get it apart, rotate them a 1/4 turn and reinstall them. This gives a new surface to run on the cam, which tightens up the slop in the valve. Or, you can still get new pins from Deere, but turning them is cheaper, and the new surface should last as long as you'll own it...
