I am looing for advice regarding rear main seal replacement on 53 jubilee. It's not practical to split with the loader and backhoe on it. What is the best new seal to get? Is it just a 2 piece rope seal in there or is there something else I need to know of? Plan is to just drop the pan and do it that way. Clutch is soaked with oil as oil was running out the hole where you use a timing light. Is there a way to clean the clutch w/o splitting? Also why not hole underneath with cotter key to prevent the bell housing from filling? I'd imagine it was leaking when we bought it as it's all old oil running out. (just did oil change yesterday). I would like to get this done as soon as possible as I need it for some work. Thanks

It has a 2 piece rope seal. There may be a neoprene rubber replacement available.
Every '53-'64 Ford I've seen has the small square plate with the hole and the cotter pin on the bottom of the transmission. Have you looked closely for it- it's held on with 4 bolts.

The cotter pin hole is probably there just filled with grease and oil so you can not see it any more. Some one in the past probably removed the cotter pin so then the grease and oil clogged it up. To maybe clean the clutch you can use brake cleaner spray and pull the starter off and spray the clutch area that way. On the rear main I can not tell you what type it has since I have never done one on a Jubilee but I have split more then one that had a loader and back hoe you just have to remove them both

There are possibilities but probabilities are very different. There is a LOT about these topics on this forum. Just use the search. Yes it is a rope seal. possibly you can change it with a pulling tool but not likely. The bigger problem is the wedge seals on each side of the rear main cap. They are tough! but you could get lucky. You could perhaps clean the clutch with carb cleaner or any degreaser spraying in through the starter hole. There is supposed to be a fairly large cotter pin in the drain hole in the bell housing to keep the hole clean to allow oil to leak out.

cotter pin hole on a Jubilee(NAA) is just in front of the transmission drain plug.
not the best place, as the bell housing gets filled up with muck.
drilling a small hole more forward won't hurt anything.

before you tear down, make sure it's not just tranny fluid from a leaking tranny front seal that has just accumulated from having the cotter pin hole plugged

loader/backhoe.....I'd get that hole opened and cleaned, so I could see just how bad the leak was.....
I have one that drips some tranny fluid, not enough to worry about, I keep the drain hole clean to protect the clutch and kick a pan under it when parked.

Found the drain hole last night, no cotter key, it was plugged with dirt. Its definitely oil in there as the tranny fluid looked like melted ice cream when we dumped it. Who knows when it was ever changed last.

Take the plate off and replace the cotter pin.A minor leak will cause trouble if the hole is plugged.I knew a fellow who bought a new MF tractor. He saw an oil leak and plugged the hole with an aluminum roofing nail. After a few years he moved to Florida and sold the tractor to a neighbor who had to replace an oiled clutch.Cotter pin should fit loose so it can keep the hole clear.I would add a second pin while the plate is off.
