530 faster gears

I am looking for the availability of a faster gear set for a B-50-520-530. 10 mph is not enough for a tractor ride.

A few years ago I had Bill Zegers of Newton, Ia put in a set. My 530 can do 16mph now but its hard on the clutch starting out from stop with the higher gear. 641-840-2477 was his number.

Not sure how much you are looking for, but swapping your clutch and first reduction gear set with an early B would get a little (10-12% I believe). It isn't much, and would likely require some machining, but can be done. Guys with early tractors will do the swap the other way around to slow them down for pulling.

FIL put fast gears in a 50 JD, I have been driving it over 10 years, 13.6 38 tires, not enough power for some hills, think 17-18 mph. Place in Ohio makes them.

Most tractor rides around here run about 12 mph. If I could get to 14 mph I think a 530 should pull most hills.

As long as we are talking about changing gears, I have a 60 that I would like to slow down the reverse speed from 3 mph to 1 mph so I can use a 3 point snow blower. Is this possible with a gear change?

You're not the first person to ask that question, but the answer is no.

How reverse is accomplished on a 60 is the 1st/3rd sliding gear engages the differential instead of the countershaft. For example, if you wanted to slow down reverse by 2 teeth, you would have to change the sliding 1st/3rd gear to have 2 less teeth, then have a larger differential gear that had 2 more teeth. Now, since you have made the differential gear 2 teeth bigger, you have to make the drive pinion on the countershaft 2 teeth smaller. So that change just slowed down ALL forward gears, and then 1st/3rd would be slower yet since you changed 2 teeth from input to countershaft, then another 2 teeth from countershaft to differential.

I have tooth counts for an early A, but not a 60 so I don't know how many teeth you would have to change to slow it down that much, but it's not a realistic proposition. You could put 620/630 reduction gears in, but on a 60 that is a 4% change and you say you are looking for a 66% change.

I use my 60 to blade snow, so I feel your pain. Mine probably worse yet than yours, as I currently have 16.9x38 tires on it.

Our area clubs have 12 mph limit. Retired member ---a john deere shop foreman came up with idea of a double leaf spring on the governor arm which gives more engine rpm. Many in the clubs running 530' and 50's have done it and get about 14 mph which gives them a little extra mph room and power up the hills.

Randy what was done to the gears to make it faster. I know the 730 came from the factory with the choice of a slow or faster transmission. This was done by changing the two left side external gears between the top and bottom shafts. Its a simple job.

I think 4th & 6th gear were replaced w/ new gears. The cover they are in had to be modified slightly to fit over the larger gears.

I was under the impression that the A/60 final reduction gears transplanted into a 620/630 would increase the ground speed ?
Same situation with B/50 final reduction gears in a 520/530 will speed them up ?

Late A/60 reduction gears in a 620/630 will speed up everything 4%. Early A gears would speed up a 620/630 13%. I don't know the tooth counts for the B series tractors, but if the change from 520/530 gears is roughly the same, it might be worth looking into. Gain 13% gearing, twist the engine a little harder might get you in the upper 12s to 13MPH if it runs 10 MPH now.
