530 transmission

Looking at Case 530. What is the easy way to tell which Trans. is in the tractor? I think they offered a triple, dual, and straight trans. The lever on the right side ahead of and to the right of 4 speed trans. lever is for the dual or triple range or am I wrong. Also was case o matic an option on these tractors and if so how do I tell if it is one or dry clutch tractor? The tractor is a gas so I assume it is a model 541. The side shields are not on tractor is that where serial no is located? Thanks for any help new to the Case line.

The SN# plate is on the side panel I beleive on the right side. 4 speed, 8 speed or 12 speed.
4 speed has a single shift lever between your legs. The 8 speed and 12 speed have the same shift lever plus a lever on the right side of the transmission. 8 speed is low range when pulled beack and high range when pushed forwaed( lever on right side ). 12 speed uses the same lever but you move the lever to the right when in neutral and push it forward for high range. Hope that makes sense. Dick, OR.

The 530 with Case-O-Matic came with dual range. The dry clutch has the triple range. Case-O-Matic is one of the most misunderstood systems out there. I really like them, but they can run into a lot of money if they need to be repaired. Most of the ones that do need extensive repair had been misused and had their maintenance neglected.

early units could have triple range,, later units could have 4 speed, 8 speed, or 8 speed shuttle or Case-O-Matic only, triple was dropped in aprox 65-67 time frame, I would have to do some digging to get the exact date

The serial number plate on the 530, 570, and 630 were mounted on the right side panel. Ranks right up there with the dumbest decision Case ever made because many of these tractors ended up sans the cover, with meant their serial numbers were lost. Note the serial number plate on the 570 at the lower left corner of the side cover.

The triple range shift pattern is depicted in the decal on the dash of this 630. The dual range just omits the right movement and D is replaced with L in the aft position. The last triple range unit was serial number 8298700, which was approximately the mid-point of the 1966 model year (probably Q1 1966).

There are several ways to identify the dry clutch verses COM. The easiest is to look at the clutch peddle. The first picture below shows the COM clutch peddle, and the second picture depicts a dry clutch peddle.

If the tractor has it's original paint and decals it may well tell you what the tractor is. Notice the "Triple Range" decal on the 630 above, and the Case-O-Matic decal on the early 541C.

If the tractor is a gas, the model will be one of the following:

541 - Row Crop
541C - Row Crop Case-o-matic

540 - Utility
540C - Utility Case-o-matic.

There are some other iterations of the spark ignition 530s, but the above model numbers would catch a very large percent of the production.

This might high jack this post, but when the range shifter was changed from triple range to dual range on the later ones were the high range gears still in the tranny or did they just use dual range setup from the Case-o-matic tractor.
