I listened to the wrong person on how to pull my fuel injection pump. He thought I had a Bosch but turned out to be a Roose. I lined up the lines under the little cover on the pump. At that time I should have pulled it straight back but he said this would be disaster. He told me to pull a cover plate on the front of the engine, undo the nut and THEN pull the pump straight back. Naturaly thie involved pulling the radiator! When I tried to loosen the pump it moved forward and presto, I had the gear and shaft in my hand. Now. The problem is that this gear has a dot on one tooth with no dots on the matching gear. How do I time this thing? I will be grateful for any advise.

If you have not turned anything since you lined the marks up in the pump then just install the pump so the marks are in register and you will be right back in time. If you have removed the shaft from the pump, after resealing the driveshaft, make sure the dot on the end of the shaft matches the internal dot on the interior of the pump. mEl

I have turned the crankshaft. The gear is still bolted to the shaft that goes into the pump and is out of the engine. As the other end of that shaft is like a car distributor I can only get it in the right way or 180 degrees out. it's timing the gear to the other gear thats the problem in my mind. I could take the nut off (i'm assuming there's a woodruff key under there) and put the shaft in the pump with the marks in register but then I still have the problem of installing the gear properly don't I?
