535 Ford haybine

I've got a Ford 535 haybine. Found an issue on the jackshaft that has two pulleys on it that drives the conditioning rolls and the sickle drive. I've heard it was made by New Idea and is the same as a 290. Anyone know of a salvage yard with either machine? I'm located in north west WI and have called all of the ones close. Looking for sheave # 290088 and shaft # 290250.

New parts are available from New Holland but I'm thinking you don't want to spend $800 plus on that machine. Try Fry's Machinery in Pennsylvania (570) 546-3968

Are you looking for the over-running clutch assembly that's what it sound like to me. Most common problem is that it has a grease zerk that most folks missed and caused the bearing to go bad and also the pins in the clutch to freeze. I have a New Idea 290 and I just rebuilt mine last year got the parts from AGCO dealer. Did the pins, springs for the pins, bearing. new dual belt (one belt that take the place of two) out the door for less than $150.00.

I've done a few repairs to those jackshaft. What exactly is wrong? Is the spline shot on the shaft? We have one that was welded up, then turned down and just had a simple key milled instead. Still in use many years later. I gotta fix the other jackshaft assembly again so we have a spare, but first I need to find a round tuit.

Yes, spines on shaft worn as well as internal splines in pulley. You have one key way made in it or two?

If I remember right it's just got 1 key in it, but 2 would probably be better. I think that's the one we have in the machine right now do I can't really look at it like the other one that's on the bench right now... might be able to try asap ag parts in black creek. Send I've been seeing more of these machines lately than I ever did growing up.

It was also painted red and sold as a Massey,I think #81 haytender.

Tried Black Creek, downing and Worthington already. Going to have a friend try and weld up shaft and install a key way like you'd described.

Only other pave I could think of would be American near fond du lac, but the key would be the easiest way to go I think.
