540 bendix steering cylinder

I have the kit to rebuild my bendix steering cylinder. It was rebuilt a couple years ago, it was still leaking after that "rebuild" so I know it wasn't done correctly. I need help with getting o-rings, washers, spacers ,seals etc in correct order. A diagram, pictures, any instructions would be helpful. & appreciated. I have kit #87029510 plus a separate o-ring 238-7208. Which I was told was not included in the kit, but needed.
Thank you, Melvin

I've never bought the cylinder kits from Case, I don't know what is in Case kit 87029510 or the separate o-ring. I can post pics of correct assembly of the control valve and actuator end of the cylinder if you need that but not the ram or rod end.

Control valve seems to be fine. I am rebuilding the rod end. Thanks for the response

I did look up your o-ring on the Caseih parts site.
CASE IH - O-RING - 238-7208 0.139'' Thk x 0.609'' ID, -208, Cl 7, 75 Duro $5.00
You will be able to buy that at a hardware store or hydraulic shop, use the -208 part nr.
I've never replaced the rod packing but have done one piston. The barrel has to be cut to pull the piston and then rewelded straight, and I mean straight or it will bind, and then not far down the road the rod packing will leak. One time was enough for me, have done my share of control valves and actuator parts but the ram reseals went to the hydraulic shop.
Bent rod that has been in service for some time will show some chrome scuffing to serious wear.

Thank you. If I understand correctly, in order to do this right it needs to be cut & rebuilt inside also, (piston)
But if the rod is scarred new packing will probably leak again. Is there any other option or permanent fix? Or just take it to a hydraulic shop for a complete rebuild?
Thanks again, Melvin

Hydraulic shop is your best bet. They can straighten the rod and rechrome it if needed. Without a lathe welding for me just ended up as multiple tacks.
