I have another question.Would it be advisable to use sandblasting on the engine or would you just scrape, clean and pressure wash it? This is my first time at restoring a tractor and I just want to get it right.

Very hard to keep sand from getting into places you don't want it.

Ditto what HC said.. sand gets everywhere.

I scrape.. and if there is alot of loose paint.. i use a wire wheel.. stuff like oven cleaner will make paint soft so that loose stuff can be power washed off easier..

Oven cleaner wire wheel pressure washer and scraper. The sand will go wher you don't want it. I did a 640 last summer sprayed it with oven cleaner and hit it with a pressure washer and it took almost everything off. acouple hours with a wire wheel. And ready to paint.
