544B questions

On a 544B loader is the pump on the rear of machine that is driven direct from the engine using oil from the transmission? We went to replace a line under the seat today and figured the trans was by itself and the hydraulic tank supplied both pumps for the loader and steering. The way it looks to me the pump in the rear must take care of steering, brakes and grab fork, and the pump driven off the transmission must just take care of the loader. So both filters down by the pivot point must be for the rear pump and the filter in the hydraulic tank is the trans driven pump? The grab fork control was added by some one, we run ATF in the trans and Hytran in the hydraulic tank. Sure are alot of lines running back and forth compared to our other loader.

You are correct.. The rear pump is steering and brakes and is fed from the transmission charge pump. The pump under the floor is for the loader only. Both systems should use JD Hy-Gard or whatever is comparable. The filter system is just as you thought also.

Thanks for the reply, a lot of stuff on this loader has been changed around, didnt know if this is how it was suppose to be plumbed or not. Do you think the ATF is too light to use in the transmission? We have run a Case w14 with a similiar transmission with ATF for the past 20 years and picked up this 544B this winter. We dont use it for much hard dirt work, mostly cattle feeding from fall until spring. Transmission temperture gauge runs in the green so i dont think it is overheating at all.
