550 Help Needed

I got the stuck motor apart the first week of January and took it to the machine shop . Just got it back and started putting it back together. I can?t remember where these go. There is a hole in the front of the block behind the camshaft, but I don?t think it goes there. Any help appreciated! Chris

Does that spring fit inside that piece? Does it slide inside the camshaft?

I think John is right, it looks to be items 5 (camshaft thrust button) and 6 (camshaft thrust button spring) on the photo of the parts book I have linked.

Yep, pretty sure it goes in the end of the camshaft. Thanks for jogging my memory, I was afraid that it had been down so long that I'd forget where everything went. I'll probably run across something else before it's back together. Thanks, Chris

Probably Cam end thrust button. If diesel it could also be idler gear thrust button? Did you put the main oil gallery relief valve back in? It also looks a bit like this but probably smaller diameter? Never good when you have parts left over!!
